Editorial Support

Professional editing for new and established writers

Editing support

Are you looking for an editor?

Have you written a book but don't know if the plot is strong enough, if your sentences are phrased correctly, or if you've made spelling and grammar errors?

An editor can help you to develop and polish your manuscript whether you're looking to self-publish or submit a manuscript to an agent.

Types of editing

  • Structural: Identifying issues with characters, plot, pacing, themes, and written style.

  • Copyediting: Checking a manuscript reads well and uses consistent language and formatting.

  • Proofreading: Searching for any outstanding errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation.

How editing works

How it works

  • Step 1: Send an email detailing your requirements or book a free 15-minute call

  • Step 2: I will email you a rough quote based on the estimated number of hours the edit may take.

  • Step 3: If you would like to proceed, we will agree on a deadline and I will send you my terms & conditions.

Guidelines

  • Fiction manuscripts in all genres bar erotica. Non-fiction manuscripts for proofreading services only.

  • For structural edits, novel manuscripts must be at least 50,000 words. If shorter, book a mentoring session

  • For copyediting and proofreading, novel manuscripts must be complete and be between 50-120,00 words.

  • Enquire for short stories, poems and essays.

The editing process

The Process

  • Once details are confirmed, you will need to send me your manuscript. I will start by reading it and writing up an initial report. Based on this report, I can provide a more detailed quote.

  • You can just book a manuscript assessment without follow on edits if you wish. You will still receive a report.

  • I edit in Word using track changes. I leave all changes visible unless otherwise requested.

Mentoring

If you are struggling to complete your manuscript, you can book editorial consultancy sessions. In these sessions, I work with you on all levels of the editorial process.

If you don't know where to begin, how to structure your ideas, or how to develop your work, you can book a mentoring session or join a creative writing workshop.

Testimonials

"Working with Francesca was a great experience. As well as being thorough, she is always on hand should any queries arise, and adheres to the voice of the author completely. I would not hesitate to work with her again to produce a polished manuscript."

Shani Struthers, author

"...Every live wire needs an earth and Francesca Tyer has been just that for Destiny’s Boot. To put it another way, if I was adamant that I wanted to swim the Channel, she would be in the support boat with snacks and a compass. [...]

I am incredibly grateful for her voice of reason, and technical knowhow and exceptionally glad I couldn’t see her eyes rolling as she read the first draft."

F. J. Mitchell, first-time author

"I was delighted with Francesca's work on my latest book. Her copy editing was meticulous, and she also pointed out some unnecessary sequences that I'd overlooked. Removing them greatly improved the flow of my story. In addition, Francesca provided quick responses to my short queries well after she'd completed her role. Editorial aftercare! I'll definitely be requesting her editing services in the future.

Robin Driscoll, author

"I’m a first-time YA writer.

Francesca has been a great help and encouragement in editing my manuscript focusing me on inconsistencies and highlighting rewrites for me to concentrate on rather than having to grapple with the whole work. I have no hesitation in recommending her services."
